Introduction
Hello everyone
I hope you all had a good Easter break however you chose to spend it.
In this issue, there's a great post about a Perch project for buying event tickets on a surf school website. Also in this issue, all about search and how to optimise that for your site. There are three great articles. Read them in sequence to find out more about using Perch to add search to your website.
See you next time.
News
Perch Project for Event Ticket Sales
A blog post and video where Jack Barber describes the app that he built for Whitby Surf School. The app enables website visitors to buy tickets for surf lessons and see what events and activities are planned. A great project by the sound of it.
Content search
Here's a nice explanation of Perch content search and how to configure it for your site. Great post by Hussein Al Hammad.
Restrict content search to a single Collection
It’s also possible to restrict the search to a single Collection. Well, sort of. You can’t actually do that. There are 2 approaches you can take here.
Grouping search results
In the previous post, I discussed how
perch_content_search()
can be used to search the content of Runway Collections and how you can display the results that come from a specific Collection. We can use the same approach to display the results from multiple Collections ... (so that) the results are grouped by their source Collection.
Add-Ons
Pipit Sharing app update
There's a new version of the Pipit Sharing app (the app enables you to quickly and easily add sharing links without JavaScript).
The app has been rewritten to make it testable, more maintainable and easier to add new features.
How Do I?
Using a Navigation Group title in a navigation template
Want to display a navigation group name in a template? Here's how to do that.
Site Examples
TMLEP - an independent clinical practice
A Runway site. The Blog, Forms and Members add-ons are used. Maybe of more interest is the use of a Collection so that the client can manage all data presented in the Divisions chart and cards on their Members page.
Perch Documentation
Passing variables into templates
Perch allows for variables to be set at runtime which are then available within templates.
This article also explains how to use PerchSystem::set_vars()
to set multiple variables at once.
