Introduction
Hi folks
There are some great new apps and add-ons in this newsletter. Two of them help with image optimisation and processing which is incredibly valuable on any site.
I've been working on a couple of new Perch sites, one of which will be using the Perch Members app. This make it very easy to create a Members-only area. Thinking back, one of the challenges for me in the early part of my web career was to create a login area for a site. How I wish I'd had the Perch Members app back then!
See you next time
Tips And Tricks
Printing Debug Messages
Perch’s debug mode allows you, the developer, to get contextual debug messages whether that is on the front-end of your site or in the control panel.
Great article describing how to do more with debug messages.
Add-Ons
Image optimisation, Tinyimg app
Uses Tinify service to optimise images on upload. Similar to the Perch Kraken app, but uses the TinyPNG/TinyJPG API to optimise uploaded images. TinyPNG/TinyJPG offers their service for free for the first 500 optimisations each month.
Imgix Template Filter
Pipit Imgix is a Perch template filter that generates Imgix URLs for your images. Imgix is a service that lets you process, manipulate and optimise images on the fly and then serve the images via a fast CDN.
Collection field type
The Collection field type allows you to select Collection keys via the control panel (e.g. in an editable region). It is useful when you have multiple Collections and you want to give the editor control over which to display on certain pages.
Campaign Monitor App
Root Campaign Monitor is an app to view Campaign Monitor lists and campaigns. Using Perch forms you can also subscribe new users to your lists.
Site Examples
Rioz Global
A new site for a warehousing and logistics company. Uses Perch with Forms App and the Chirp SEO add-on.
