Introduction
Hello everyone
Happy New Year! Hope that 2019 is a good one for you all.
I've been looking back on last year's newsletters. The most popular issue was Issue 36 which had the highest open rate and click numbers.
The most clicked item from the newsletter in 2018 was a post about User-filtered Product Listing. I've included it below.
Also in this issue, there's a new Redirects App. And a good article from the Perch team comparing standard Perch and Runway. And a couple of great site examples!
See you next time.
News
Perch 3.1.4 Update
Perch 3.1.4. was released at the end of December. It includes an update to Redactor editor and better SVG asset handling.
Perch or Perch Runway?
Here's a good overview of Perch and Runway. I've found it useful to read this intermittently because Runway license costs are sometimes difficult to justify for some people. However, this is a useful reminder article about why you might use Runway ... and why standard Perch may be better for small sites.
Add-Ons
Redirects App for Perch
Create 301/302 Redirects from within the Perch Admin.
Note: This app currently only works with Perch Runway as it is required to load before handling every page. It will NOT work with the standard version of Perch.
How Do I?
Check Block Type Against Previous Block
It can be handy to check whether a Block type is different than the previous Block. You can perform the check with Perch conditional tag
perch:if
with thedifferent
attribute and test against_block_type
.
User-filtered Product Listing
The Perchology Newsletter's most clicked link from 2018.
Many e-commerce stores let you filter their product listing to help you find what you are looking for faster. You often can filter by things like brand, category and price. This post demonstrates how you can achieve this in Perch with the official Shop app.
